What data is stored

Data is saved in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local):

• URLs and page titles of sites you choose to watch
• CSS selectors for section-level watching (if you use that feature)
• Content hashes and text snapshots used for change detection
• Change history (timestamps, summaries, diff snippets)
• Your settings (check frequency, significance threshold, quiet hours)

Cross-device sync (optional)

If you enable cross-device sync, Alert Me also stores a compact copy of your watch list and change notification events in your browser's built-in sync storage (chrome.storage.sync). This is encrypted and synced by Google (Chrome) or Mozilla (Firefox) across devices signed into the same account.

• Synced: watched site URLs, titles, check frequency, pause/snooze state, change alert events
• Not synced: full page content, content hashes, or detailed change history (stays local per device)
• You can disable sync anytime in Settings

Alert Me does not operate its own sync servers. Sync is handled entirely by your browser vendor's existing sync infrastructure.

Change webhook (optional)

If you enable the mobile push webhook in Settings, Alert Me will POST a JSON summary when a watched page changes to the URL you configure (for example your own backend to send FCM or SMS). This includes the page URL, title, and change summary — not full page HTML unless you add that on your server.

What data is transmitted

Alert Me makes network requests to the websites you watch, and optionally to webhook URLs you configure (draw ingest and/or change notifications). No Alert Me-operated servers are involved.

Alert Me does not:

• Send data to any Alert Me or third-party servers
• Use analytics or tracking services
• Require a separate account
• Share your watched sites with other users

Why broad site access is needed

Alert Me requests permission to access websites (<all_urls>) because you can choose to watch any public page. This permission is used solely to:

• Fetch page content for change comparison
• Run the element picker when you click "Watch section"

Content scripts are only activated when you explicitly use the picker. Background fetches occur only for URLs you have added to your watch list.

Notifications

Alert Me uses your operating system's native notification API to alert you of detected changes. Notification content is generated locally from diff results and is not sent to any external service.

Data retention and deletion

Data persists until you remove a watched site, clear extension storage, or uninstall the extension. You can delete individual sites and their history from the Dashboard at any time.

Children's privacy

Alert Me does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the updated version will be included in the extension package. Material changes will be noted in the extension changelog.
